Our red and black Angus cattle are allowed to forage freely in wide open, beautiful green pastures in Blackwater, Missouri, right in the heart of the U.S.
As most parents know, if you want your family to eat healthy food, it can’t taste like “health food.”
Because grass-fed cattle are allowed to roam, they tend to produce leaner meat, which is often less flavorful. In the final few weeks prior to processing, we supplement our cattle’s grass diet with precise levels of high-quality grain. Though grain constitutes only a small fraction of the feed over the life of the cow, this method gives the beef just enough extra fat to enhance the flavor of the end product. Through careful control of the diets of our livestock, we have found a system that perfectly balances the health of the cattle and the taste of the beef. Grain-finished beef tastes better, plain and simple.
We believe the hormones a cow is born with are the only kind they are supposed to have in their bodies. We never treat our cows with synthetic growth hormones, or any other form of steroids.
Because our cows are raised in their natural habitat—spacious pastures—rather than confined and crowded lots, illness is extremely rare. Therefore, the constant use of antibiotics is unnecessary. If illness does occur, we treat each cow or condition on individualized, case-by-case basis.
At Morning Glory Farms, we believe in utilizing as much of the animal as possible, leaving little, if anything, to waste. The muscle obviously goes to our meat selection. We use bones, joints, and tendons to make bone broth. We are even working on a leather tanning process to use the hides of the animal. Our cows are cared for throughout their life and we are passionate about respecting the animal throughout processing as well.
Our beef and bone broth are currently available for farm store pickup on Fridays, 3-6 pm & Saturdays, 8 am - noon. Place your order ahead of time using our online form.
